Scleral Lenses
Have you been told your eyes are hard-to-fit for contact lenses? NYC contact lens expert, Dr. Marina Grapp-Locasio may have a solution for you. For patients with keratoconus, dry eye disease or post-surgical complications, scleral lenses are the best option to give you sharp, comfortable vision.
Scleral contacts are usually larger in diameter than the standard GP (gas permeable) contact lens. Instead of resting on the cornea like a typical contact lens, it rests on the white of the eye, called the sclera, which is less sensitive than the cornea. Scleral lenses allow the cornea to be bathed in a tear reservoir all day, protecting the surface of the eye. People with severely dry eyes or those who have just undergone a corneal transplant will find these contact lenses to be rather beneficial.
From your evaluation, scleral lens fitting and throughout your aftercare, Dr. Grapp-Locasio will provide professional, personalized care to help you become accustomed to your new contact lenses.
Myopia Management with Orthokeratology
Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) is a non-surgical procedure using specially designed contact lenses to temporarily reshape the cornea to reduce refractive errors and improve vision. Orthokeratology/CRT has been found to effectively reduce myopia progression.
Ortho-K utilizing Paragon CRT® contact lenses work by gently reshaping your cornea overnight, resulting in a corneal shape that focuses light correctly onto the retina. When removed in the morning, distant objects will come back into focus and patients can see clearly without the use of glasses or daytime contacts. Paragon CRT lenses are FDA-approved for children and adults.
They are the perfect solution for patients who:
- Want a lens-free lifestyle during the day
- Find soft contacts too irritating
- Are too young for LASIK or are not a LASIK candidate
